Ja Mon [hut] started in the late winter/early spring thaw of 2009. The snow had warmed and frozen-up solid and we were awaiting the corn cycle to begin. Having powder boards on the brain but lacking a tuneup, we knew the sunshine and cold were better spent exploring the higher reaches of the mountain in search of the first alpine hut. Around 1,950' on the upper reaches of Glade Park we found the perfect spot next to a seasonal runnoff with a "smack you in the face" view of Owl's Head in Canada through the mouth of the bowl to the northeast.
